Description
It is hard to believe but true. The Piaggio Ciao Chrom side panels are back on the market after years.
However, they are not produced by FACO anymore, but by the increasingly larger and well-known manufacturer AKOA, which has revived the side covers in 2023 after years. More beautiful than ever before, with the idea of making the panels differently than FACO did. For the mono model, AKOA explicitly omitted the rear indentation and instead launched a model suitable for Vario.
From a design perspective, the angular shape of the 3rd series (1980) was intentionally chosen. This is simply because, in addition to the standard gray, this series also had red, white, yellow, and black, and AKOA will certainly bring other colors after the launch in chrome, most definitely black, which many are eagerly awaiting.
Anyone who has ever held chrome side panels knows that the plastic is not as soft and flexible as standard plastic panels. Due to the harder plastic, assembly can sometimes be a bit tricky at first. The new AKOA side protectors have been built so accurately from the original that it requires a little pulling and pushing, especially with the Ciao frames where no two are the same. The side protectors can also be mounted on the newer Kat models of the 4th series, but these frames tend to be slightly wider at the front near the tank, so the side protector may sometimes rest a bit on the edge there; this is not a big issue, as no one pays attention to that once it is mounted.
The side covers in chrome can also be mounted on the 2nd series, but on the right side, the middle fastening screw will not be used or will simply be mounted as a blind screw; it has no function since the fastening point on those models is located further towards the center. However, it is sufficient for assembly to only use the rear and front screws at the tank.
