It is hard to believe but true. The Piaggio Ciao Chrom side panels are back on the market after years.

However, they are no longer manufactured by FACO, but by the ever-growing and well-known manufacturer AKOA, which has revived the side covers in 2023 after many years. More beautiful than ever before, with the idea of making the panels differently than they were with Faco. AKOA has explicitly omitted the indentation at the back for the Mono model and launched a model suitable for Vario instead.

In design terms, the angular look of the 3rd series (1980) was deliberately chosen. This is for the simple reason that, in addition to the standard gray, there were also red, white, yellow, and black for this series, and AKOA will certainly bring other colors after the launch in chrome, definitely black, which many are eagerly waiting for.

 

Anyone who has ever held chrome side panels knows that the plastic is not as soft and flexible as a standard plastic panel. Due to the harder plastic, assembly can sometimes be a bit tricky at first. The new AKOA side protectors have been so precisely recreated from the original that they require a bit of pulling and pushing, especially with the Ciao frames where no two are exactly alike. The side protectors can also be mounted on the newer CAT models of the 4th series, but these frames are usually a bit wider at the front near the tank, so the side protector sometimes rests slightly on the edge there, but this is not a major issue; once installed, no one pays attention to it anymore.

The side covers in chrome can also be installed on the 2nd series; however, the middle fastening screw on the right side will not be used, or it will just be mounted as a blind screw, which has no function since the fastening point sits further towards the center on those models. For assembly, it is sufficient to use only the rear and front screws at the tank.
