Description
The latest version of the Optimate4 Dual charger. In the latest version, the maximum output current has been increased to 1.0A. It is also suitable for the BMW/Ducati CAN data bus system. It overrides the shutdown of the onboard socket and charges the battery, including battery testing.
Optimate4 Dual, the ultimate, universal tool for 12V battery care at home, now with an automatic dual program for diagnosis, revival, charging, testing, and maintenance. Charge the starter battery directly or select the program via the 12V socket of your motorcycle equipped with a CAN data bus system. With automatic keyless activation, your battery is automatically charged and maintained until it is turned off. Optimate4 Dual includes low-voltage revival pulses for even more effective activation of severely neglected sulfated batteries.
The elegant, encapsulated, weather-resistant Optimate4 and its stunning new LED control panel are just the introduction to the new reference.
Like all previous Optimate models, the microprocessor-controlled Optimate4 can rescue neglected batteries. The Optimate4 is even more effective and offers a new two-stage RESCUE and TURBO RESCUE MODE. For slightly neglected deeply discharged batteries, the RESCUE MODE is automatically activated, while the TURBO RESCUE MODE is activated for more severely neglected batteries.
Like all other Optimates, the Optimate4 then charges the battery, checks whether the battery is as fully charged as its default state allows, and then performs a check for dead battery cells. However, Optimate4 additionally offers the following new features:
1. The maximum output current has been increased to 1.0A without increasing the power consumption.
2. 48-hour time limit at the stages before the first cycle test for discharging the battery, to avoid wasting time and energy on batteries with a short-circuited cell.
3. 19 possible LED indicators are displayed with 10 LEDs on the stunning new control panel.
4. 5 possible results of the cyclic hourly tests for power loss/retention are indicated by a combination of green, yellow, and red TEST LEDs.
5. Weather-resistant, encapsulated housing (protection class IP54) with built-in mounting eyes (replaceable in case of damage, for example, due to overtightening a mounting screw).
6. New cable sockets prevent stress on the insulation at very low temperatures.
7. New "glide-in" plug pins avoid stiff connections.
However, the most important attribute of the Optimate4, as with all Optimates, is the safe, optimal maintenance of your battery during long-term storage, achieved through the gentle maintenance cycle that automatically lets the battery rest for 30 minutes after each hour of the maintenance cycle while connected.
The automatic multi-stage program is activated as soon as the Optimate4 is connected to a 12V battery that still holds at least 2V:
- The Optimate4 immediately checks whether the battery at least holds enough voltage to enable the program and whether the battery is deeply discharged ("sulfated").
- In the case of neglected batteries, the Optimate4 initiates the rescue mode, initially limiting the applied voltage to 16V and, if necessary for sulfated batteries, initiates the TURBO Rescue Mode at a voltage of up to 22V** at low current for up to 2 hours to return the battery to a state in which it can normally accept a charge.
- Once the circuit recognizes that this point has been reached (immediately for most batteries), the basic charging mode is activated, providing current at a constant rate of 0.8A to charge the battery.
- When the battery check circuit recognizes that the charging progress is sufficient, the special check phase is activated. The voltage is limited to a lower value and, if deemed necessary, a voltage pulse mode achieves further desulfation and completes the charging. Once this has been verified or if the battery is unable to receive and hold a sufficient charge after 48 hours from connecting, the next phase is activated.
- Now the Optimate4 provides no current to the battery for 30 minutes while monitoring the unsupported battery voltage to determine whether the battery can hold a sufficient charge to start an engine before the long-term maintenance and testing cycle begins.
- In the next 30 minutes, the Optimate4 provides the battery with a support and maintenance charge, but only as necessary to counteract losses or connected consumers, such as electronic alarms or immobilizers. Overcharging and/or overheating of the battery is excluded by this 50%-cycle, with the battery being interactively maintained for 30 minutes and then resting during line loss tests for 30 minutes each. The battery is always 100% in optimal operating condition, but never overcharged.
**The high-voltage desulfation mode of the Optimate4 can only be activated when the battery has been disconnected from the vehicle's electrical system. However, even if the battery has not been disconnected, the Optimate4 will not damage sensitive vehicle electronics, as the mode with the higher voltage can only be activated when minimal or no current is flowing into the battery. Claims regarding potential risks in some Internet forums or chat sites are based on inadequate consideration of the technical facts and are incorrect.
